Born & raised in New York City, Clean Plate Co. owner Chimere Ward, has always had an interesting relationship with food.
Growing up within half Caribbean -American & half Southern cultural traditions, early exposure to comforting fare & entertaining influenced her to delve into entrepreneurship, after getting laid off whilst beginning her own family. With just a couple of years out of college, married & expecting, she gained more interest in the importance of vitality in foods. Chimere happily ditched the unhealthy habits she became used to as a student.
In 2009, Chimere sought volunteer work centered around the city's ever growing healthy eating movement. Working with Food Bank of New York's Cookshop program & Kitchen Pantry, raising money for No Kid Hungry & selling baked goods, propelled a keen business sense. Her passion was then paired with dedication in bringing awareness to her community by sharing information on food & health. With assistance from her husband, Norbert Ward, the essence of family & love is the secret ingredient to every delicious dish.
By 2010, requests for meals soon came rolling in. Then came experiences of catering for Gap, Time Out New York, & Chamber Music Society at Lincoln Center, to street vending at Hell's Kitchen Flea, Ridgewood Market, LIC Flea & Astoria Flea, and even hosting food events featuring live music & art exhibitions at La Maison d'Art, & CaveRock. Chimere was also featured in a commercial promo for "Chopped" & Hillshire Farm which aired on The Food Network .
All throughout this exciting culinary coaster ride, building great relationships with local purveyors keeps Chimere's focus of sustainability top priority for Clean Plate Co.'s Seasonal Comfort Cuisine & artisanal preparation. Producing out of Hot Bread Kitchen's Incubator, growing a team of professional chefs, & an active member & mentor for SheChef LLC, Clean Plate Co. has become larger than expected & hopes to find greater success with product packaging & a commercial space in a neighborhood near you!
